Thiruvananthapuram: Poet Sugathakumari inaugurated Pakalveedu, a rehabilitation centre for the inmates of government mental healthcare centre in Peroorkada, Thiruvananthapuram on November 29, 2012. The project launched by HLL lifecare Limited as part of its corporate social responsibility activities aims to provide opportunity to bring the recovered patients of the mental health centre to the mainstream of the society by involving them in various activities. Around 25 inmates of the hospital will now be involved in condom making process as part of ‘Pakalveedu’. The project also plans to expand its functioning by including more inmates from the hospital. “The society always hesitates to accept the recovered mental health patients. I am very glad to be a part of ‘Pakalveedu’, the brave initiative of HLL to rehabilitate them,” said Sugathakumari while inaugurating ‘Pakalveedu’. HLL Chairman and Managing Director Dr M. Ayyappan promised the inmates the company would try to provide more opportunity to the inmates of the mental healthcare centre to empower them and make them self sustained. Hospital superintendent Dr G. Sunil Kumar and HLL Senior Vice President Dr Babu Thomas were also present at the function.
