Redressal Committee on Sexual Harassment at Work Place takes firm shape at HLL

HLL sets up a redressal platform to ensure safety of  women employees at its various units across the country.   

Ms. P.K. Jayalakshmi, Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes & Youth Affairs inaugurated the committee at a function held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary Hall at its Peroorkada Factory on 26 September 2012.

Speaking at the inauguration, Minister said that the state government is in the process of formulating a comprehensive law aimed at ensuring the safety and protection of women. The Minister said a high-level meeting has already discussed the draft legislation and the government is committed to tackling issues that have led to rising domestic violence, mental ill-health among women and high divorce rates in the state.
 
She lauded HLL’s efforts at ensuring the safety of women at the workplace, saying such activities “encourage the overall change in mindset that is essential to preventing crimes against women”.
 
HLL C&MD Dr. M. Ayyappan pointed out that women today have gained respect and recognition on their own merit in all fields of work and enterprise.
 
“Our policy has been to provide equal treatment and opportunities to women for employment. I’m proud to say they have proven themselves more than capable at all tasks, even the most technical,” he said.
 
The  Redressal Committee on Sexual Harassment at the Workplace, constituted in accordance with the landmark Supreme Court directives, has been carrying out awareness-building and other support activities.
 
HLL’s AVP (HR), Ms. V. Saraswathi, said in her welcome address that this year’s activities aim to rejuvenate the Committee and its work for the welfare of women employees.
 
Ms. M. Sreekumari, Secretary, Mahila Mandiram offered felicitations and HLL Deputy General Manager, Dr. V. K. Jayasree gave the vote of thanks.
